TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism Minister, Arief Jahja, said that Indonesian tourism sector can be the biggest source of foreign exchange in 2020, overtaking oil and gas commodities. "We have potential in tourism," Arief said on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

Currently, the oil and gas sector remains as the largest source of foreign exchange with US$30 billion, followed by the palm oil sector at the second place with US$17 billion, while tourism sits at the third position with US$11 billion.

Arief also predicted that in the next few years, the tourism sector would be able to generate US$40 million of foreign exchange. "The main thing is [the tourism sector] must exceed the oil and gas sector, which predicted to remain stagnant at US$30 billion, even decreasing," Arief said.

Nevertheless, Arief admitted that there are many things that must be done to achieve the target, especially promoting and developing tourism facilities.
