TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti said he had yet to instruct the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, known as Bareskrim, as to whether it should put Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators behind bars.
“I have yet to make any instruction on that. Please wait for the investigation to conclude, it is still afoot,” he told Tempo on Friday, May 1, 2015,
Badrodin said he learned about Novel’s arrest last night, but added he could not interfere with the investigation as Novel was deemed non-cooperative as the latter failed to answer police summonses for questioning sessions twice.
“He skipped questioning twice, that’s why he was arrested. We’re worried that he might flee,” he said.
An arrest warrant shown to Novel’s wife Rina Emilda stated Novel was arrested for skipping police questioning twice in a case of the 2004 shooting of a swallow’s nest thief when Novel was the chief of the Bengkulu City Police’s detective department.
