TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, clarified several news media in Australia that stated his effort on lobbying his father to cancel the death penalty on two Australian citizens, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. To News Corp Australia, Gibran claimed that he never suggested or talked to his father upon the matter.
"I support death penalty," said Gibran upon confronting Australian journalist, who also confirmed that he never spent time studying in Australia. "I studied in Singapore, not Australia. Your news is mistaken."
Gibran spent his high school time in Orchid Park Secondary School, Singapore. After graduating, Gibran continued his study at the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS).
Previously, Gibran was mistaken as a graduate from the University of Technology, Sydney. In a conversation with a John Doe from the university, Gibran was quoted of being restless on the death penalty.
