TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will be working with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to evaluate the cheap rice (raskin) distribution program starting this year. The evaluation result will be used to decide whether the program is worth continuing or not by 2016.
The move is a response to KPK's input to improve the raskin distribution scheme so the rice is given to the people who truly need it. For the first phase, starting next week, the government will soon start distributing the cheap rice in West Bandung regency, West Java.
Minister of Social Affairs, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, said the raskin program, with a total subsidy budget of Rp18.93 trillion, will continue distributing 15 kilograms of rice per family for 15.5 million poor households every month. The implementation, however, will only be for the first three months of this year. "For the other months we will evaluate first," she said.
