TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Act of solidarity for Palestine organized by a number of students’ associations in Yogyakarta last week had raised multi-million rupiah donation. The act of solidarity is held on a daily basis since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge to bombard Gaza on July 8.
The Indonesian Muslim Students Action Front (KAMMI) in Yogyakarta organized the act of solidarity for Palestine on Friday, July 2014. Their target was collecting Rp4 million (around US$347) donation in one hour. However, the donation raised before Friday Prayer was beyond expectation.
“We collected more than Rp20 million (US$1,700),” Ardio Sagita, the coordinator of the act of Solidarity in Yogyakarta, said on Sunday, July 13, 2014.
Students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) under Students’ Executive Body (BEM) held similar act on Saturday, July 12, 2014, and managed to raise Rp10 million (US$867).
Both KAMMI and students under BEM at UGM will distribute the donation through the Indonesian National Committee for Palestinian People (KNRP), established by Indonesian volunteers.
“We entrusted the donation to the KNRP. Hopefully the can depart [to Palestine] soon,” Rakhman Satrio, the coordinator of the act said.
