TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - A number of ceramics in various shapes and sizes were displayed neatly on top of a table at the Merah Putih Gallery in Surabaya on Monday, June 24. Light bulbs hung around the room dimly illuminating the room of the exhibition. The ceramics were created by students at the Surabaya Wilwatikta College of Arts (STKW).
The exhibition entitled "Rakuti Caramos 1" was opened last Sunday, June 23, and will continue until this Saturday, June 29.
"This exhibition puts more of an emphasis on the process of creating a piece of art. The concept will follow," Sri ‘Kethek’ Sefry, one of the students majoring in fine arts at STKW, told Tempo. This exhibition is the work of a group of students and was held to discuss the concept of art for the sake of art when displaying art pieces in public.
"When we talk about concepts, that is up to the individual artist," said Sri.
The students participating in this exhibition have already taken the mandatory Ceramics I and Ceramics II classes at the college. After completing these courses, each student is required to create a piece of art to be exhibited together.
