Year-end Holiday; Airlines Asked to Keep Airfares `Realistic`

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry calls on airlines to keep prices reasonable for travels during the Christmas and New Year`s holidays. This request comes at a time when the government already sets the top and bottom limit for airfares.
"We urge them not to set prices too high," the ministry's secretary of Air Transportation Directorate General Nur Isnin said here on Wednesday, December 6.
Nur Isnin said that the Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi himself urged airfares to be kept 'realistic', considering air travels are a necessity during Christmas and New Year's holiday seasons.

"Please keep prices between the top and bottom limit. We hope there wouldn’t be a surge in demand that may prompt [airlines] to peg airfares at their highest prices," he said.
The government projects that more than 6.5 million people will be traveling by air during this year's year-end holidays, over 5.6 million expected to be domestic passengers.
The commercial aviation industry is preparing more than 8.9 million seats during this holiday seasons; comprising of 7.56 million seats for domestic flights and 1.35 million for international routes.
