TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Banda Aceh City Police arrested 37 of 113 inmates who escaped from the Lambaro correctional facility in Aceh Besar district on Thursday.

"Today, we have arrested 37 inmates," Chief of the Banda Aceh City Police Senior Commissioner Trisno Riyanto said on Saturday.

They were arrested in Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Pidie, and Lhokseumawe, he stated, adding that 76 inmates were still at large.

"Those arrested in Pidie and Lhokseumawe are being held in custody in the local police stations and will be returned to the correction facility," he added.

A total of 113 inmates escaped the Lambaro correctional facility in Aceh Besar district on Thursday evening (Nov 29) through the front windows and rear fences.

"The inmates may be charged with criminal offenses as they were involved in vandalism," he noted.

Chief of the Aceh Provincial Police Inspector General Rio S. Dampak urged the escaped inmates to surrender at the earliest.

"We ask you to surrender within the next three days," he added.

The Aceh Provincial Police have named six inmates as the masterminds behind the jailbreak.

Spokesman for the Aceh Provincial Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ery Apriyono noted here on Saturday that the six inmates had incited rioting that led to 113 inmates escaping from the prison on Thursday evening (Nov 29).

Four of the six inmates were sentenced for drugs offences, while two others were imprisoned for murder, he revealed.
