Workers Union to Stage Rally Against Jakarta Minimum Wage

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Labor Unions Confederation (KSPI) planned to stage a rally against the decision regarding the provincial minimum wage (UMP) at Rp3.94 million.
The KSPI president Said Iqbal said that workers rejected all decision on UMP based on the Government Decree (PP) No. 78/2015 concerning wages.
“Demonstration to reject UMP or UMK referring to PP 78/2015 has been held and will continue to be held throughout Indonesian regions,” Said Iqbal said during a press conference, Thursday, Nov 1.

He mentioned the rally would not only be staged in Jakarta but also in other cities including Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Banjarmasin, Semarang, Jepara, Cilegon, until Tuban.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan issued the Gubernatorial Decree No. 114/2018 concerning the provincial minimum wage in 2019 which was increased by 8.03 percent as stipulated in PP No. 78/2015.
According to Said Iqbal, the minimum wage was quite a few and that could not fulfill workers’ monthly needs.
