TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan planned on speeding up the construction of the Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) garbage power plant in Sunter, North Jakarta. The facility—able to accomodate some 2,000 tons of garbage per day—will see its first construction phase kick off in early 2019.

“The total waste of the city per day amounts to 7,000 to 8,000 tons,” said Anies, Friday, Oct 19.

Anies expedited the ITF project following a fresh row between the Jakarta and the Bekasi municipality administrations. On Thursday, the Bekasi Transportation Agency pulled over 51 garbage trucks owned by the Jakarta government en route to the Integrated Waste Management Facility in Bantargebang, Bekasi.

The governor expected the presence of ITF Sunter would help the capital deal with its waste management. “So, such problems [with the Bekasi administration] will not happen [in the future],” he underlined.

Meanwhile, Asep Kuswanto, the head of Integrated Waste Management of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, said the construction of ITF Sunter would complete within three years. The ITF project was opted as it was considered safer and environment-friendly. Asep asserted the gas emission from the garbage burning would be based on the existing minimum standards.
