TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan joined Monday the capital's sanitary team aka the Orange Team to clean up mounds of trash at the Ecomarine Mangrove Forest in Muara Angke, Pluit, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. He walked down the piles of garbage on the coastline while still wearing his uniform.
Donning orange boots and a black hat, the governor joined the infrastructure and public facilities officers (PPSU) assigned to get rid of tons of garbage in the area. "We responded to public reports that the coastal area of Muara Angke were covered with trash. So the Environment Agency begins the work," he said.

The governor said the cleaning was difficult due to the area's condition: any heavy equipment was unabe to access the site, thus the work was done manually by human labor.
Even the officers had to deploy fiber boats from Kali Adem Port to transport the garbage, which was then loaded onto trucks and taken to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management (TPST) in Bekasi. "We can’t utilize any tools so we have to use our hands," said Anies.
As many as 400 workers have been deployed to clean up the garbage in the area. Up to this afternoon, 50 tons of trash has been brought to Bantar Gebang. "At least, there are 50 tons of trash more to be taken out," he added. Anies Baswedan said he sought to complete the work in a week.
