TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The four Asian Games` basketball athletes from Japan previously sent home for spending a night with prostitutes were strongly suspected to have had booked the prostitutes from an online platform.
According to the Head of the South Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) Ujang Hermawan, there are no longer open prostitution practices taking place in the Melawai area nearby Blok M, which is known to be the location where the four athletes paid to have sexual services.
“We think that the prostitutes were booked via online [platform],” said Ujang on Tuesday, August 21.

The Melawai area is known as the ‘little Tokyo’ since it is the home of several Japanese restaurants and distinctively Japan entertainment spots. However, Ujang reassessed that the area is now free from open prostitution practices.
The Satpol PP routinely monitors the area, and on Monday night, when the athletes allegedly got their prostitutes, the team managed to arrest six women that were suspected to be sex workers after going undercover as customers.
