TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Administration plans to utilize bailout funds to cover the costs of constructing the Tanah Abang sky bridge considering that the city’s budget (APBD) will not be able to be attained as scheduled.
The sky bridge is the city’s plan to accommodate the hundreds of street vendors that are currently accommodated at the closed public Jatibaru Raya Street within the Tanah Abang market area.
The Jakarta provincial government has instructed PD Pembangunan Sarana Jaya, a developer which the city owns or regionally owned enterprise (ROE), to provide the bailout.
The project was accelerated to fulfill the recommendation of Ombudsman and Jakarta Metro Police that has pressed city officials to reopen the Jatibaru Raya Street by contesting that the main function of a public street must not be transformed into an accommodation for street vendors.
“The total amount of funds is being finalized in the form of an auction, but we predict that it will use-up around Rp25billion to Rp30billion that can be used from the internal funds of PD Sarana Jaya,” said Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno on Wednesday, June 6.
PD Pembangunan Sarana Jaya is currently in the process of auctioning in search of a contractor and will announce the results after the 2018 Eid al-Fitr. Furthermore, Sandiaga Uno hopes that the sky bridge construction will be able to kick start after the Ramadan month ends.
The sky bridge still connect the mobility of personal vehicle users and train commuters. Moreover, city officials have coordinated with the Jakarta Metro Police to completely shut down the Jatibaru Raya Street during Tanah Abang’s sky bridge construction project.
