Online Scam Causes Rp2.2 Billion Loss in 4 Months, Police Say

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police revealed that in the period from September to December 2017 people suffered up to Rp2.2 billions of loss from online shopping through e-commerce services.
Cybercrime division Sr. Comr. Asep Safruddin admitted that online shopping is gaining popularity among Indonesians. Nevertheless, he went on, the higher rate of online shopping, the higher rate of online scam to online shoppers.
"We monitored that in the past four months from September to December 2017, the total loss reached Rp2.2 billions and we keep on watching this online crime," he said on Friday, January 12.

He explained that the police will create online reporting application for those who fall victim to an online scam when they shop online through e-commerce services. He went on by saying that after the victim files a report, it will be followed by filing a report to the criminal division.
"If a scam takes place, the victim should file a report to the app so that the crime can be immediately acted upon. We will launch this app in the near future," Asep added.
