TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A research was conducted by Mondelez International on snacking habit in Indonesia. The report entitled “Snacking Habit Report: Indonesia” shows one out of three Indonesians snack more than three times a day.
The research involved 1,500 Indonesian adults and a third of them were the mothers of children at the age of 3-12 years old. The following is six facts about the snacking habit of Indonesian people according to the research:
1. As much as 36 percent of the total respondents choose to snack on their own. The rest eat their snacks with other people and consider group snacking as a moment to bond.
2. As much as 72 percent people consume snacks three times a day. Meanwhile, 85 percent of them never miss their three-times a day meal.
3. Urban Indonesians eat more snacks during traffic jams. Indonesia’s notorious traffic problems in major cities have also caused people to eat dinner much later than the usual hours.
4. Tea is considered to be the second most consumed inessential beverage “snack” after biscuits.
5. As much as 20 percent of the research subjects are more selective in choosing their snacks by paying attention to the nutrition content. Biscuits are the most consumed snack compared to other snacks.
6. Fruits are the most preferred source of snack to be consumed after eating a large meal or when someone is looking for a sweet snack.
