TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat is set to enforce Regional Regulation No. 5/2014 on transportation. The regulation requires Jakartans who owns a car to also have a garage.
“We have familiarized [the regulation] and I heard from the Department of Transportation that some [cars] were impounded,” said Djarot on Monday, September 11.
Citizens are also required to include a letter of guarantee regarding their ownership of a garage before applying for vehicle registration at any police station. The governor said that only people that have a garage in their homes will be handed their vehicle registrations,” said Djarot.
He reasons that the Regional Regulation is currently enforced to urge Jakartans to use public transport once supporting infrastructures are complete.
Djarot said that other than enforcing the garage ownership rule, he will also provide Jakartans with a park on ride feature, which is basically a public parking space for people to park their vehicles before continuing their commute with mass-public transport.
