TEMPO.CO, London - Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, retires from Royal Marines duties on Wednesday, August 2. The Queen's Consort's final public duty came after 65 years at an age of 96.
His last solo public engagement was attending Royal Marines Charity event, the 1664 Global Challenge, in the grounds of Buckingham Palace. During the event, Philip will also meet veterans and cadets.
The Duke announced his retirement in May after decades of supporting Queen Elizabeth as well as attending events for his own charities and organizations.
Prince Philip was born in 1921 in Greece's island of Corfu, the youngest of five children. His family left Greece when he was a baby, and he spent his childhood in France and Germany before moving to England.
Philip was a British Navy officer during the Second World War. He married Elizabeth in 1947 and had four children, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne.
