TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives deputy speaker Agus Hermanto said that the government has handed over the draft bill on general elections and the presidential mandate related to general elections on Friday, October 21, 2016.
"Correct. We have received the draft bill and the presidential mandate. Ministers to deliberate [the draft bill] had been listed. And we will have a leaders' meeting on Monday," Agus said at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday, October 21, 2016.
Agus explained that the draft bill deliberation would be conducted in several stages before being finalized in a plenary session. After the plenary session, Agus went on, the draft bill would be escalated to the House's deliberative body (Bamus) to decide whether the deliberation would be continued through a special committee (pansus) or a working committee (panja).
Meanwhile, the presidential mandate has leaked among journalists before it was sent to the House. The Presidential Letter No. 66/Pres/10/2016, which is classified, contains two attachments regarding the Bill Draft on general elections.
The letter contains a call for a deliberation of the draft bill at the House in order to be approved as a priority. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has assigned the Finance Minister, the Home Affairs Minister, and the Law and Human Rights Minister to deliberate the draft bill.
