TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Attorney General HM Prasetyo has confirmed that the AGO will execute 14 people in the third round of executions. “If nothing’s changed, there will be 14 people,” he said at the Attorney General’s Office, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
Some who will be executed are Zulfiqar Ali, Freddy Budiman, Merry Utami. “Mary Jane will not be executed yet,” the Attorney General said.
Having made all the preparations, the Attorney General has yet to reveal the execution date. He said that he still wait for the final preparations for the executions. “It’s getting closer and closer.”
According to the Attorney General, the preparations for death row were almost complete. The AGO had been working closely with the security team. It had also contacted the convicts’ families. The firing squad had been prepared. The Foreign Ministry had notified foreign embassies in the past few months. “All have done their part.”
He hoped that the public could understand the decision behind the impending executions. “Even though we have yet to agree [on death penalty], we are doing this for the good of the nation,” he said.
