TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Joko Widodo has summoned Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan on Monday, April 25, 2016. In addition to discussing Luhut’s visit to China, the President also talked with Luhut about the former industry minister’s involvement in Panama Papers scandal.
“Yes I have made a report,” Luhut said after the meeting with the President at the Presidential Palace complex on Monday. Having discussed the issue, Luhut admitted that the President has no problem with it. “No problem.”
Luhut arrived at the Palace at 9:45 a.m. and immediately entered the Palace complex. The meeting was held for an hour.
An investigation conducted by Tempo magazine investigation team found that Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan is listed in the Panama Papers. The Panama Papers is the leak of documents from legal firm Mossack Fonseca. The Panamanian legal firm is known for its specialization in setting up offshore companies in tax havens such as British Virgin Islands.
Luhut’s name is listed as Director of Mayfair International Ltd. The offshore company was established on June 29, 2006. In the Panama Papers, Mayfair’s owners are two companies: PT Persada Inti Energi and PT Buana Inti Energi.
In its incorporation documents, Mayfair’s address is at Suite 13, First Floor, Oliaji Trade Centre, Francis Rachel Street, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles. The Seychelles archipelago, a former British colony, is located north to Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, around 1,600 kilometer off the east coast of Africa.
