TEMPO.CO, Ambon - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said has declined to comment regarding offshore companies that are vurnerable to tax evasion. Energy Ministry, according to him, has yet to take any action before reviewing the issue.
“I’m not prepared to make any comment on the issue,” Sudirman told Tempo at Solar Power Plant building in Morotai Island District,Wednesday, April 6, 2016. “I want to review it first.”
Vulnerabilities of offshore companies in being exploited for tax evasion has been revealed after the leak of financial documents of a Panama-based legal firm, Mossack Fonseca. The documents exposes officials who owns secret offshore companies.
The data also reveals oil and gas companies in Indonesia who also set up offshore companies in Panama. Among others, companies owned by businessman Muhammad Riza Chalid, Veritaoil and Gold Manor.
The Panama Papers leak has not only implicated Indonesian companies, but also businessman, actors and athletes around the world.
