TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Jakarta administration has planned to turn the fish market area in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, into a marine tourism destination.
“We will turn the fish market area into a marine tourism destination. There will be a plaza built in the fish market area,” Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said at the City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Ahok added that the plan was also to connect the marine tourism destination to other areas, including Luar Batang.
“The area would be a perfect place for a marine tourism destination. Therefore, we will build a huge plaza. If a tourist destination is built there, the people of Jakarta will be aware of the Capital's history,” he explained.
According to Ahok, turning the area into a tourist destination would not need a blue print since the place just needed a small renovation job.
He explained that the project would be financed by private companies’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
“So, we won’t use the Jakarta Budget. But we will call on developers to finance the project with their CSR programs,” Ahok said.
