TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama said he had prepared around 400 flat units for relocation of residents of Kalijodo, North Jakarta. Buildings in Kalijodo area will be demolished as they were illegally built on green areas.
“We have prepared more than 400 units of flat,” said Ahok on Thursday, February 18, 2016.
The Governor yesterday received reports from North Jakarta Mayor that more than 30 families had registered to fill the flat units. However, they then admitted they were threatened by local figures.
Ahok ignored the threat and said the government is focusing on the relocation. He wishes the flats are ready to be inhabited before the demolition is carried out.
“Threats are not the main problem as long as the flats are ready,” said Ahok.
Previously, Ahok affirmed Kalijodo area would be demolished because the land was supposed to be an open and green space.
Today, the Jakarta provincial government issued a first warning letter for Kalijodo residents. If after the third letter the residents refused the demolition of their houses, the government will do it by force.
