TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Soedarmo, director general of political and general administration at the Home Affairs Ministry, said the that the Gerakan Fajar Nusantara (Gafatar) organization is not registered with the Home Affairs Ministry.
According to Soedarmo, in 2011, the organization submitted a registration application, but was rejected due to suggestions from related ministries or agencies, such as the State Intelligence Agency, the police, and the Religious Affairs Ministry. "All agreed not to issue an SKB [joint ministerial decree]," said Soedarmo on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.
Soedarmo explained that Gafatar's activities were rejected because they led to actions that violate prevailing regulations. Soedarmo said that Law No. 17/2013 on Public Organization allows a public organization to be registered or not. "The difference is registered organizations will receive services from the central and local governments," Soedarmo said.
Nevertheless, Soedarmo added that unregistered organizations will still be monitored by local governments.
In relation to the increasing number of missing person cases, Soedarmo said that the Home Affairs Ministry has coordinated with local governments and the National and Political Unity Office (Kesbangpol) to monitor Gafatar.
