TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh - The Aceh Indonesian General Practitioner Association (PDUI) criticized the internship doctor program initiated by the government. The critics were raised in relation to the death of Afrianda Naufan, a young doctor from Aceh in a remote area in Maluku.
Chairman of Aceh PDUI dr. Rais Husni Mubarak, demanded the government to evaluate the internship doctor program. "Because it is unclear who is responsible for it," Rais said to Tempo on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
Rais asserted that most doctors participating in the internship program has no counselor. Rais said that supposedly, young doctors should be accompanied by a counselor. But in reality, young doctors in several regions were placed in small community health centers without a counselor.
Rais added that internship doctors often does not have access to adequate facilities and only receive a small salary.
