TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno LP Marsudi asked G77 group and China to ensure that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development would be implemented.

“Efforts to realize and implement the 2030 Agenda need strong commitment from every country by considering the principles of development capacity, level and priority difference in each country,” Retno said on Thursday, September 24, in front of 134 foreign ministers at G77 annual meeting in New York, USA, which was led by South African Foreign Minister.

Retno also emphasized the importance of G77 development to form a global governance system that would accommodate developing countries’ aspirations, particularly in the process of decision-making at international financial organizations. Retno added that G77 must take advantages from solidarity and commitment shown by its members to boost progress at various global forums, such as the United Nations Forum on Climate Change (UNFCC) to be held in Paris in Late November 2015.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be inaugurated by governments around the world during the inaugural conference of the post-2015 Development Agenda that will be held at the United Nations headquarter in New York on September 25-27, 2015. The agenda serves as an important document to be used as a reference for global development efforts for the next 15 years.

The 2030 Agenda mainly aims at alleviating poverty. One of the most important commitments in the global agenda is the formation of a facility mechanism for capacity building, technical assistance and technology exports for developing countries.

The 39th meeting of G77 foreign ministers in New York has resulted in a Ministerial Declaration that would be used as a basis of negotiations in various United Nations economic and development forums. Thailand will lead next year’s G77 meeting.
