TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Logistic Agency (Bulog) is conducting a study on cold storage development including capacity and infrastructure area, expected to begin next year, officials said Friday, September 18.
“We must discuss production source issues, goods movement, distance and all. This must be studied so the total will match, where it will be produced, its capacity, etc.,” Head of Bulog Djarot Kusumayakti said.
Djarot said the cold storage will begin construction in Jakarta, as Jakarta has a huge population for a city. Once the storage in Jakarta have begin construction, it will be easier to build cold storage in other regions.
Djarot plans to use Bulog budget to build the storage and will utilize Rp 2 trillion from state capital fund to invest it in the cold storage development.
The former BRI Bank Director said he does not know the investment value for the cold storage. “Maybe one day we should have something that is integrated, which could ease work in agriculture so that they can only [worry about] production,” he said.
