TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso, the former Head of National Police Criminal Investigations (Bareskrim), said that his former institution was investigating nine big corruption cases.
“There is a case worth Rp 180 trillion (US$12.85 billion), which its investigation is being suspended. It’s very spectacular. If I continued the investigation, there might be a commotion,” Budi Waseso told Tempo in an interview at his office on Friday, September 4.
Budi Waseso also said that he was handling an investigation into a corruption case surrounding the condensate procurement that involved PT Trans Pacific Petrochemial Indotama (PT TPPI) causing a state loss of Rp 2 trillion (US$142.85 million)
In the condensate case, the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulator (BP Migas) directly appointed PT TPPI. Bareskrim’s Special economic crime director Brig. Gen. Victor Simanjuntak mentioned that PT TPPI took over the condensate selling worth US$3 billion from BP Migas.
Budi Waseso, who was promoted as the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) head since Friday, hopes that the investigation into the case would be continued.
“The case should not be intervened, let alone to be stopped. Public have the right to know about the [investigation] process,” he added.
Budi promised that he would continue to control and monitor the investigation into the case for the sake of the moral value.
