TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Motors (GM) plans to build next year a military vehicle based on an electric Hummer that has passed the military's test.
Quoted from Hindustan Times today, November 15, GM has won their first military contract worth of US$ 214.3 million in 2020 and will use it to build the US Army's new Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISF).
Even though it's based on Hummer, GM plans to make it into electric Light Reconnaissance Vehicle (eLRV). However, this military vehicle will retain some electric vehicle aspects as a prototype.
Rick Kewley, GM Defense Vice-President, said the military's test and evaluation were done for the development but still in early stages and there is no certainty yet for mass development.
This vehicle is designed for military use and probably won't look like a normal car. Hummer EV has a modified frame, an electric motor and uses Ultium batteries.
