TEMPO.CO, Merak- Merak port authority estimated that the number of passengers travelling through the port during this week’s long weekend would raise by around 10 percent.
In other days, Merak usually see as many as 2,000 people every day but during this week’s long weekend, the number is expected to increase into 2,200 people.
“We estimate that the number will increase but the increase will not as big as the increase in other major holidays. The reason is that this week’s long weekend happens after Eid Day and school holiday,” said Iwan Yuhendra, a Merak seaport official on Saturday (15/8).
Iwan also said that despite the rise in the number of passengers, Merak authority would not add the number of ferries at the port and the operating cars operating would still be 250 cars.
"Unless there is a significant increase, we’re going to add our armada,” Iwan added.
