TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Traditional Market Traders, Ngadiran, predicted that the price of beef and chicken would continue to rise until 2 days before Eid day.
According to Ngadiran, the price of beef is estimated to reach Rp130,000 per kilogram, while the price of chicken is expected to reach Rp40,000 to Rp42,000 per one chicken.
For the record, the price of beef is currently at Rp110,000 per kilogram and the price of chicken is at Rp36,000 per kilogram.
"Price of beef and chicken have experienced the highest rise compared to the prices of other commodities,” he said on Saturday.
Ngadiran went on to say that as of Saturday, the pries of food commodities in a number of traditional markets have risen by 5 percent on average.
The price of egg, for example, has risen to Rp22,000 per kilogram, while the price of red onion has risen to Rp28,000 per kilogram, and the price of garlic has risen to Rp22,000 per kilogram.
"For those commodities, I predict that the prices will stay the same until Eid,” he added.
In the meantime, Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel said that supply of main food commodities is still safe although Eid nears. He also said that the prices of goods are still relatively stable.
However, to prevent the surge in prices, Gobel said that the Ministry would tighten the security of good distribution.
"The supplies are enough for 1 to 5 months. We will ensure that the supplies will reach traditional markets,” he concluded.
