TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Economic growth in the first quarter of 2015 Kalimantan was recorded at only one percent. The figure is extremely low compared to the national economic growth rate, which stands at 4.7 percent in Q1. "The slowdown was affected by commodity prices," said Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro on Monday, 25, 2015.
Bambang said that regional governments and inflation control teams in Kalimantan must strive to accelerate the region's leading sectors. "If they depend on commodities, it would be very risky. Because [commodity prices] fluctuate," Bambang said.
Bambang added that Bali and Nusa Tenggara had achieved the highest rate of economic growth of nine percent compared to other regions. Both of the regions were relying on its tourism and services sector. Following in second place is Sulawesi with seven percent of growth rate. "Cocoa, fish, and nickel are [Sulawesi's] leading commodities. Other than the rapidly growing fisheries sector," Bambang said.
Meanwhile, Java sits on the third position with five percent economic growth followed by Papua with 3.7 percent
