TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel said the government would impose strict monitoring on the market in a bid to prevent synthetic rice distribution. Rachmat added that the government would also review imported products distribution in the market.
“We have to control goods and products in the market. In this case, vendors must be held accountable for products they sell. So, they have to where the products come from,” He said on Sunday, May 24, 2015 after a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of APEC ministerial meeting.
According to Rachmat, he also discussed the issue with synthetic rice allegedly distributed from China with Chinese deputy trade ministry Wang Shouwen. The Chinese government has promised to help Indonesia with the investigation into the synthetic rise case.
Wang explained that the Chinese government only authorized a state-owned enterprise to export rice that it would not be difficult to track down the plastic rice distribution.
