TEMPO.CO, Bandung – Senior journalist Her Suganda passed away on Monday night at Immanuel Hospital in Bandung, West Java at around 10:30 p.m. Her’s burial is scheduled today in Dewisari village, Rengasdengklok, Karawang regency. “The burial will take place at 10 a.m.,” said Deni Denaswara on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Her died at 70.
Her began his journalism career in 1965 in Jakarta. He worked for Kompas daily in 1975-2002. Her was also a member of the West Java Writers and Journalists Association and Bandung’s advisory team for the city’s cultural heritage buildings and zones.
Harastoeti, the team’s head, said she heard of Her’s illness a few days ago, and that Her suffered from swelling on his heart. “I meant to visit him yesterday but I cancelled the plan because only relatives were allowed to visit him,” she said.
Besides writing about artists, humanists, luminaries and issues surrounding the West Java area, Her was also known to have developed a fondness to chronicle stories about the province’s capital, such as kuncen Haryoto Kunto.
Her had also written a string of pieces compiled into books, including Mencari Sejarah Sunda 1 and 2, Robohnya Lumbung Kami-Kasus Petani di Kabupaten Karawang, Jejak Sukarno di Bandung, Kisah Preanger Planter, and Wisata Parijs van Java.
