TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hotel business in East Java on April experienced a significant hike in occupancy. Head of Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (BPD PHRI) of East Java, M. Sholeh, assumed that the hike was ostly because of the new Ministerial policy on government meeting and convention.
Compared to February and March this year, he said that April's hike is twice. "Yet when we compared it to last year, we are still far below," said Sholeh.
Head of the Center of Statistics (BPS) of East Java, M. Sairi Hasbullah, confirmed that following Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi's revision on the policy, hotel occupancy in East Java reached 52.09 percent. On March, occupancy was at 48.21 percent.
"Mostly it is because the government gave some slack on civil servants' meeting in a hotel," he said. Moreover, a hike on tourist numbers also contributed to the total occupancy.
