TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Leaded Fuel Removal Committee (KPBB) said that state oil and gas company Pertamina's plan to introduce the new RON 90 Pertalite fuel, which will act as the replacement for Premium, is misleading the public.
Karya Ersada, Director of the KPBB, said that Pertalite does not fulfill the Euro-2 standard. "We consider [the plan] as misleading, because it should be RON 92," said Karya at his office on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Karya said that Pertamina should produce RON 92 fuel because most vehicles in Indonesia has applied the Euro-2 standard since back in 2007. Karya said current engines in most vehicles in Indonesia requires good quality fuel with an octane number higher than 91.
According to Karya, currently no country in the world uses RON 90 fuel. Karya said that even Malaysia and Thailand have utilized RON 91 fuel.
In addition, Karya asserted that the Pertalite contradicts the purpose of the Anti-Oil and Gas Mafia Team led by Faisal Basri, which expects RON 88 fuel to be replaced by RON 92 fuel.
