TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Despite spending only six seasons in Premiere League with Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo—now Real Madrid striker—has been named the best Premier League player since the league kicked off in 1992.
According to a recent Usurv survey involving 1,000 respondents, Ronaldo was preferred by 177 people, ahead of Thierry Henry and Ryan Giggs. Other names on the top ten list include Eric Cantona, Gianfranco Zola, and Alan Shearer.
Steven Gerrard, ranking six, is the only player on the list still playing for a Premier League club—although certainly leaving for LA Galaxy by the end of this season.
United signed Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 for 12 million pounds. Playing in 292 matches in all competitions, CR7 scored 188 goals. Ronaldo’s achievement with United includes Premier League title, Champions League Cup, FA Cup, and Club World Cup title.
In 2009, the Portuguese skipper also won the highest transfer fee with his move to Real Madrid for 80 million pounds.
