TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former French international footballer David Ginola has announced his stand for FIFA Presidency against Sepp Blatter on May election.
“I’m standing for FIFA president and I need you on my team.RT to show your support,” Ginola tweeted from @teamginola on Friday.
"it is time that football was refreshed."
In his video campaign as quoted by The Independent, the 47-year-old said: "By joining Team Ginola you are saying 'yes' to a Fifa built on democracy, transparency and equality. You are saying 'yes' to a Fifa which cares about one thing - football."
The announcement has been receiving negative posts questioning Ginola’s ability to bid for the football’s top job.
“My dog would make a better FIFA president than David Ginola #VoteCooper,” @OnlyAnExcuse tweeted.
Other account, @DaleyAFC says:
“ Somehow, David Ginola and Paddy Power have made Sepp Blatter seem like the sensible choice to be FIFA President again.”
To be eligible to run, Ginola will need the backing of at least five national associations and will have to demonstrate active involvement in football administration for at least two of the last five years.
