TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State power company PT PLN (Persero) decides to delay the increase in electricity tariff for 12 classes of customers. The tariff hike, which was supposed to have taken effect on January 1, 2015, was canceled because of a direct appeal from President Joko Widodo.
The twelve classes of customers are four classes of household customers, two clases of business customers, two industrial customers, two types of government offices as well as street lighting and special services.
In addition to President's direction, the delay was also based on the decline in world oil prices.
PLN president director Sofyan Basir said electricity tariff will not be raised for least the next three months. "In fact, we will lower the tariff for industrial customers," he said on Thursday, January 8.
