TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) R. Sukhyar, said that he will postpone export permit for Freeport Indonesia if the company failed to construct a smelter. Sukhyar said that he has not received any report on the smelter development from Freeport.
"If they cannot meet the 60 percent requirement within the six month [deadline] we will force them. If there are no efforts, then their exports will be postponed," said Sukhyar on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.
Smelter development provisions are stipulated in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation. Therefore, as Sukhyar stated, if Freeport could not meet the required target of 60 percent development by February 2015, the government will not allow the company to conduct mineral exports.
