TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police’s traffic department chief Sr. Comr. Restu Mulya Budiyanto said the police would divert the flow of traffic on Wednesday, September 24 due to the planned protest staged by members of the Islamic Defenders Front in front of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD Jakarta) office in Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta.
“The traffic flow diversion is situational, depending on the conditions of the mob itself. Traffic will be diverted to Tugu Tani,” Restu told Tempo on Wednesday, September 24.
Restu said the police dispatched personnel to carry out traffic engineering on Wednesday morning. “We are anticipating congestion at several points, including in front of the State Palace, the City Hall, and the DPRD Jakarta office,” he said.
Separately, Jakarta Police public relations chief Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the FPI would deploy some 500 people to the protest. Earlier, the FPI said they would stage the protest from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
