TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama claimed that he was greatly assisted by information technology (IT) in carrying out his governance.
He gave an example where Jakarta's budget has significantly increased compared with when he took office in 2013. The increase took place after the Jakarta government implemented tax payment via online; as a result, it is more convenient for people to pay their taxes.
“When I entered Jakarta in 2013, the budget was Rp41 billion, it's Rp72 billion now,” he said during a discussion about the launching of KPK's TV channel at Kota Tua (Old Town), West Jakarta.
According to Ahok, the low budget at that time was because there were many residents or entrepreneurs who did not pay their taxes; as a result, regional income was low. “There were around 4,000 people who did not pay taxes,” he uttered.
He said that all taxes or money that come and go should be recorded on the online system, including salaries and operational costs.
