TEMPO.CO, Rio de Janeiro - FIFA president Sepp Blatter asserted that the sanction imposed towards Luiz Suarez should be reduced.
The Barcelona-bound Liverpool striker Suarez has filed an appeal to FIFA's disciplinary committee after being banned from all football activities for four months for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a 2014 World Cup group match. The appeal however, was rejected.
Currently, Suarez is filing an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and has gained support from Blatter.
"Concerning disciplinary cases, they are to be dealt with by independent committees,” said Blatter, speaking at the final 2014 World Cup press conference in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium.
"It's not like the past, when we had designated committees and could tell them what to do. We are now in a democratic system, with independent jurisdiction in FIFA,” he added.
