Atut Indicted, Rano Karno Appointed as Replacement

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Governor of Banten Rano Karno, will soon become the Acting Governor of Banten. The status will be determined once Governor of Banten Atut Chosiyah is declared as a defendant by the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

Head of Banten Provincial Government Bureau Deden Apriandi, explained that based on prevailing laws and regulations, Atut's position will be automatically non-active once she is declared as a defendant. "So since yesterday’s [Tuesday, May 6, 2014] trial, Atut will no longer active [as governor]," Deden said on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

Deden said that he have confirmed to the Ministry of Interior concerning the deactivation letter of Atut and the inauguration of Rano Karno as her replacement.  Based on the Ministry's response, he said that the issue is still being discussed with the President.
