TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global electronics manufacturer Lenovo is not interested yet in producing wearable devices like smart watches and health bracelets despite the heated competition of such products among Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony. US tech giant Apple is also reportedly set to launch iWatch at the end of the year.
“At this time we are still focusing on smart phones, the business we just started,” said Mobile Internet Digital Home Director Lenovo Indonesia Agus Sugiharto in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 25, 2014. Agus said the that the production of wearables were currently off the company’s plans.
Agus claimed the present wearables still served only as accessories. He said his company deemed the market for such products were relatively small in the society. “The market is not too large,” he said.
Agus, however, said it was possible for Lenovo to produce smart watches or health bracelets should their markets grow. He added presently the company opted to boost sales in the premium mobile phone market.
Lenovo began the year by dispatching the Vibe X and Vibe Z smart phones. Agus said the Vibe series was the combination of the P and K series, and that Lenovo aimed at increasing the sales of high-end products to cement its footing in the global market.
