TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia, is developing a new hub in Bintan island, off the coast of Singapore, in an effort to expand its domestic network in one of the world's fastest-growing airline markets.
President Director of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar, said that the company is partnering with Singapore-listed Gallant Venture to build infrastructures on the 177 acre land in Bintan. The Garuda also plans to build a maintenance facility on the island.
"This new operation will help strengthen Garuda's network development, with a potential to connect East Indonesia and West Indonesia, and become the meeting point for our international flights to Europe and the Far East," Emirsyah said in a news conference.
Bintan will become the airline's fourth hub in Indonesia after Jakarta, Denpasar, and Makassar.
