TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Police deploy tear gas at protestors in the Governor's Office and Central Java Legislative Council (DPRD) in Semarang City on Thursday, August 22, 2024. The protest in Semarang demands the Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) abide by the Constitutional Court’s regional election ruling.

Smoke billowed from the shells thrown towards the protestors, which scattered to avoid the gas. The protest was initially held in front of the main gate of the Central Java DPRD Office.

The protestors then moved towards Jl. Menteri Supeno, where two access to the government office yards are located. Chaos erupted at this point.

The protestors don their respective college jackets and come from various directions. They gathered in front of the Semarang City’s governmental office complex on Jl. Pahlawan.

They unfurled several banners, some read 'Total Politik Dinasti' or 'A Total Political Dynasty', 'Makzulkan Jokowi' or 'Impeach Jokowi', and various others. Meanwhile, some representatives take turns delivering speeches on top of a commando car.

Police officers are also on standby at the protest location. They are seen wearing helmets and carrying police shields. Several water cannons are also on standby.
