TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Ridwan Kamil has pledged that if he and his running mate, Suswono, are successful in the 2024 Regional Head Election, they will expand the TransJakarta public transportation routes to include the agglomeration areas of Bekasi, Bogor, and Tangerang.
“This aims to serve millions of people who commute daily between Jakarta and the surrounding areas,” the former governor of West Java said after a meeting at the private residence of former Jakarta governor Sutiyoso in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java, on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Ridwan Kamil acknowledged that the initial emergence of bus-based transportation in Jakarta could be attributed to the Sutiyoso era in 2002. “We have learned that valuable programs during Sutiyoso's era particularly include bus-based transportation.”
During the meeting, Sutiyoso reminded the candidate pair about the importance of effective communication with the community in order to address all matters with a humanitarian approach. Avoiding unnecessary drama,” Ridwan Kamil quoted Sutiyoso's message.
Ridwan Kamil revealed that the meeting with Sutiyoso lasted approximately 90 minutes due to the wealth of experience Sutiyoso, also known as "Bang Yos", could offer.
The discussion includes Sutiyoso's experiences during his tenure as the governor of Jakarta from 1997 to 2007. “There are aspects of his time that remain relevant today, particularly classic issues such as traffic congestion and flooding,” Ridwan Kamil noted.
