TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), Kasan, said the agency received a report of a cyberattack on one of the Prospective Physical Crypto Asset Traders (CPFAK), PT Indodax Nasional Indonesia (Indodax). Kasan conveyed the report in a working meeting with Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR), on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Kasan explained that the agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade had coordinated with Indodax. Kasan said Bappebti has summoned Indodax for clarification regarding the alleged hacking.
"Indodax is investigating the alleged hacked system," he said, quoted from a written statement.
Indodax, Kasan said, is carrying out a complete system shutdown to ensure that everything is operating properly. Therefore, he urges the public, especially Indodax customers, to remain calm.
Indodax CEO, Oscar Darmawan, confirmed that the transaction system was attacked. Oscar said Indodax had thoroughly investigated the incident and conducted maintenance on the existing system. During this process, the Indodax web platform and application cannot be accessed.
"There’s no need to worry, however, since we ensure that customer balances are safe, both in crypto and rupiah," he said.
Earlier, Indodax was suspected of being hacked after Web3 security firm Cyvers Alerts detected suspicious transactions. Losses due to cyberattack incident are estimated to reach US$18.2 million.
"ALERT! Hey @indodax, Our system has detected multiple suspicious transactions involving your wallets on different networks. Suspicious address already holds 14.4 million USD and swapping the tokens to Ether," the official X account of Cyvers Alerts warned Indodax on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
