7 August 2024 18:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) opened a lithium battery anode material factory in Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK), Central Java, today, August 7, 2024. The factory, which required an investment of US$478 million (approx. Rp7.7 trillion) in Phase 1, will have a production capacity of 80,000 tons per year.

PT Indonesia BTR New Energy Material completed the first phase of the factory in Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK) within 10 months. It is currently the largest anode factory in the world. When the first and second phases of this factory are completed, Indonesia is expected to become the second largest producer of lithium-ion battery anode materials in the world with a total production of 160,000 tons.

The Presidential Secretariat's Press, Media and Information Bureau (BPMI) said that President Jokowi and his entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base in Jakarta at around 7:30 a.m. aboard the Indonesian Presidential Aircraft-1. They are expected to arrive at 08:20.

From the Ahmad Yani Army Main TNI Base in Semarang City, the President and his entourage will proceed by car from Semarang City to Kendal Regency.

"He will go to the special economic zone in Kendal Regency to inaugurate the PT Indonesia BTR New Energy Material lithium battery anode material factory," said Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat M. Yusuf Permana, as quoted by Antara.
